Long time KCMSBL member Don Askey Passes away at 74

Beyond his professional life, Don was a true sports enthusiast. He enjoyed his front seat at home watching the KC Chiefs and Royals on tv. His passion for sports began early, playing high school and college baseball. His talent as a pitcher and designated hitter earned him a place in the Missouri Western baseball Hall of Fame. Even in his later years, he continued participating in men's senior league games. He celebrated numerous victories as a World Series winner. Don was also an avid poker player, particularly enjoying Omaha. He was also a loyal member of his fantasy league football for an impressive 40 years.

 

He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, caring father, and an awesome grandpa who cherished every moment spent with his family.

 

Don is survived by his wife, Shari Askey; 2 beautiful daughters; Jennifer Wustman (Jason); their children; Julia (11), and Sofia (5); Stefani Askey (Brandon Humphrey) and their children: Camryn (18), Taylor (11); and Jackson (10); several nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Don was precended in death by both parents, Richard and Mary.

 

A gathering of family and friends celebrating Don's life will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, Thursday April 16th, 2026 at Meyers Northland Chapel 401 Main St. Parkville, MO. The family will hold a private inurnment in St Joseph, MO.
